September 2, 2010 - 9/02/10. Ergo, 90210 day! Way fun!
A friend brought this fact to my attention earlier today and I've been humming the theme song all afternoon. Such a momentous occasion must be marked by a themed bento, I decided.
Afterschool snack bento for my girl:

We have a cheese sandwich to display the famous zip code, made of strawberry fruit leather. The smiling barran in the back is to pay tribute to Nat's "Mega Burger". :)
In the front we have peach slices for The Peach Pit. I had to add music notes fruit leather there for two reasons - #1, because that theme song tune of 90210 is just SO 90210, and #2, remember when the show started to jump the shark and The Peach Pit became "The Peach Pit after dark"? That strange music/concert club sorta place? Yeah, well, the music notes are for that too. ;-)
A star-shaped cup of yogurt covered raisins (SO California!) and some pretzel thins round out the box. Speaking of thin, remember how stinkin' skinny all those girls were? Good grief.
It would have been fun to add in some bad sunglasses and surf boards, but there was not enough space in the bento box. ;-)
Were YOU a faithful 90210 watcher? Man, I just loved that show. And I'm not the least bit ashamed to also admit I'm a total fan of the new 90210 either. ;-)

I'm not sure I could love this bento any more if I tried! I certainly love it more than I loved Dylan. And Steve too of course, but I love cleaning toilets more than I loved Steve.
I'm glad you paid homage to the peach pit. The only thing that could have made it more 'relevant' in chucking in a few 'fruitloops'
ahhh! I love it! 90210 was the best. I think I'll go find an episode or 2 to watch online to commemorate the day. Thanks for bringing it to my (and my husband's) attention...
What is the container you are using? Seems like you use it a lot for snacks... Does it have a lid?
The lunch looks delicious :D I've never actually seen 90210, I may have to check it out
Love it! Great job capturing the essence of 90210.
Ellie - it does have a lid, not a particularly secure and tight-fitting lid, but it does have one. This is from a line of bento boxes called "Happy Balloon", if I remember correctly. Came in a few sizes and also in orange and pink. It's kinda old, I've had it for a couple years. I'm not sure it's easily find-able now, your best bet would likely be ebay. Hope that helps! :)
Poor Steve...he wasn't the most popular viewer crush. He suffered from the same fate 'ol Danny from New Kids on the Block had. LOL
Looks great and yes I was a watcher..I was a young teen then so of course it was all the rage...lol
Oh my heck, you really made the bento. You kill me. Seriously! lol
First time here visiting your blog. Really nice and practical. May I please link you?
Tifani, once I get an idea in my head I can't ever shake it out until I just DO it. I knew I had a peach in the fridge and that was that. LOL :)
onabentofrenzy, please do! :)
haha how fun. Nice idea for a bento. And I too loved 90210 - in particular jason priestly.
Hi Melissa...now I have that wonderful song in my head! I *loved* 90210! I couldn't wait for Thursday nights :) Brandon was my guy. And I was more of a Brenda fan then a Kelly fan. Gosh....those were the good ol' days. Thanks for the flashback!
I'm YouTubing (is that a verb yet?) the theme song because all that's coming into my head is the Cheers theme song. Goofy bento idea. I totally love it and it makes me laugh.
As for the Danny comment ... it may have been true back in the day, but he's grown into himself and has quite a following as far as I can tell. Did the same happen for Steve?
Looooooooooooooove this bento! And I think you picked some great elements to represent what was the best show to ever be on television! (And I'm totally serious, I still watch reruns on Soap almost daily).
Now, this is about the most perfect observance of the day I've seen!
I used your idea of the cut-out fruit strip. thanks for so many cute luches. My son and I are enjoying all the new lunches.
this is by far the BEST bento you have EVER done!!!! i am SOOOO in love with it - i want to frame it!! is that wierd?? i didn't think so either ;)
technically - 90210 was already in it's 'last season' when i was finally old enough to watch it, BUT i have watched all the re-runs since then & am PROUD to say i tend to watch them during nap time now, since they're on SOAPnet for 2 hours a day!! woot woot!!
love the NEW 90210, too ;)
FABULOUS WORK, WOMAN!!!!
:) How cute! I was a fan of the old 90210! :)
Okay, how do you cut so neatly?! I tried cutting my daughter's sandwich yesterday and it was a disaster!! Ended up making a new one and just cutting it in half. :( Could I be so lacking in the kitchen?! :(
Here's a look at my final product: http://www.247parents.com/?p=809
