bento lunch, all lunch on deck

One of the things I enjoy about summer is being able to feed the kids outside. They sit on the deck to eat and I don't have to sweep up any of the crumbs. Yessss! ;-) Though, let me assure you, there is still no shortage of sweeping and vacuuming happening here. (sigh!)

My big boy's snack/lunch yesterday:
summer snack bento

In the top section Ethan had orange slices, strawberries, raspberries, and a lone blackberry (he's not a big fan of them) with one cute little heart-shaped piece of pomegranate fruit leather. The smaller dishes on the end had cucumber slices and baby carrots, SunChips and bear shaped cheddar cheese.

This is packed in one of those neat robot/monster boxes, just like the one you can win by participating in the bento goodie giveaway #2, going on now! :)

I saw some comments on the giveaway post asking where the stuff came from, here's the rundown:
* Robot bento box: bought at Borders. It's made by a stationary company called Paperchase. You might be able to still find this box at a Borders near you...maybe. Their stocking procedures are sketchy at best and Borders just sold Paperchase, so who knows what will happen with the relationship in the future.

* Lightening McQueen bento box: bought at The Disney Store. I bought this one (and several just like it) a couple years ago. All of the Disney Stores in my neck of the woods closed shop over a year ago, so I don't know if these are still being sold there or not.

* Polka dot box, animal picks, animal silicone , fork set and sauce cups were also purchased at bento stores in California, by a friend of mine who lives in the bay area.

* multicolored cocktail forks were found at Dollar Tree.

Please keep voting for Alex! You guys, the Kallas family moved into 2nd place last night!!!! I logged in late to cast a vote from my husbands computer and saw that #2 and #3 were both tied at 8439 votes. I cast vote #8440 and when I saw the page reload with Andrea in second place I was whooping and hollering! THANK YOU for voting! Thank you, thank you!! :)

Hi Melissa! Thanks for stopping by. I love your bento. So colourful and makes me drool over the pictures! And I agree with Susan. Very neat!

Just FYI, if you go to Borders looking for this, don't call it a "bento box", they won't know what you are talking about. They just call it a lunchbox. ;-) But it would be with all their Paperchase items, in the "gift" section with journals and stuff like that. :)

Looks delish and I love how you alternated the cucumber slices! It's the little smart details like that that makes a awesome bento even better!
