homemade pizza pocket bento :)

I made a batch of pizza pockets earlier this week. I've made them several times before but they never turned out as nicely with previous attempts. These ones turned out great!

This bento was for my 8-year-old son, packed in a Sassy Mealtime box with just two of the inner dishes used:
pizza pocket bento

On the left side: homemade pizza pocket and dish of organic baby carrots.
On the right: a few pretzel twists, purple grapes, fishie crackers and a homemade granola bite in a silicone cup.

Would you like a post about making the pizza pockets? Are lunchbox-friendly recipes something you are interested in reading here? My inquiring mind wants to know. :)

Click here to see the recipe for homemade pizza pockets, posted May 19. Thanks! :)

I think I know the answer, but I still gotta ask this newbie question. Do they eat the pizza pocket cold? Have you tasted things like this to see if it's still good when it's cold?

Hey Sandra! My daughter will eat just about *anything*, including these pizza pockets from the fridge. My son prefers room temperature but will eat them cool too. He actually won't eat them if they are hot at all, he has this big fear of having his tongue burned up. ;-)

Yes, recipe please! Anything like this that I can make from scratch instead of pulling out of a box, I want!

I would love to know about the pizza pocket recipe! My daughter loves pizza. Is the crust wheat? It looks like wheat. I would also like to know the oatmeal bite recipe too, or did you already give that recipe?

Just realized I never voted on the recipes question. YES! I want your recipes!

Another newbie question because I'm planning to go hunt down a Sassy box tomorrow: does the lid close on the box when you have stuff like the pretzels sticking out a wee bit?

Melissa said... [Reply to comment]

Yes, Sandra, a wee bit of sticking up still allows the lid to close. :) I don't know how well you can see from the photo, but the divider does not reach as high as the outer walls of the box - and you see the little dishes also are a bit lower than the sides of the box - so there is a bit of space there. The lid does fit flush to the top of the box, to the top of the outer sides though. (hope that makes sense!)

You know I love recipes!!

Did I ever send you a link to the recipe for chicken broccoli hotpockets? I think you would really like it.

Melissa said... [Reply to comment]

I haven't seen that recipe, Tif, but I'm sure Paige would love it. She's the resident broccoli gobbler.

Thanks everyone! I'll write up the recipe to share. :)

For the granola bites - I've been tweaking a recipe for a very long time trying to achieve a bar that will hold together. I'm not *quite* there yet, but the ones cooked in mini-muffin cups stay together well. I'll share that one too. :)
